BACKGROUND & THEMES

Southeast University is organising an academic conference on the role of economic systems, institutions and regulatory frameworks in Business Finance and Governance which will be held at School of Economics and Management, Southeast University, Nanjing, China. The Conference aims to bring together international academics, policy makers and industry professionals and to provide them with the opportunity to meet and to present and share their research and interests on issues relating to business finance and corporate governance.

We encourage submissions that use theoretical, empirical or experimental approaches to understand how economic systems, institutions and regulatory frameworks such as, mixed economy, legal institutions, informal institutions, legal enforcement of contracts, regulatory quality, cultural distance, political stability, government effectiveness, control of corruption, tariff disputes, tax policy, industrial policy and economic policy uncertainty affect firms’ financial decision making and governance outcomes, including capital structure decisions, financing, equity and debt offerings, cash holding, dividend policy, corporate mergers and acquisitions, risk-taking, board structure, compensation among others.

Additionally, we are interested in both theoretical and empirical papers that explore the effects of the COVID-19 global pandemic on corporate decisions and financial markets, including financial flexibility and fragility, cash holdings, capital investments, supply chain resilience, earnings expectations and growth, corporate governance, capital market reactions, contagion, volatility and market liquidity, and the response and impact of government monetary and fiscal policies during the pandemic period. Other COVID-19 related papers are also encouraged to submit to the conference.

Submissions to the conference in the form of complete or nearly complete papers should be sent to [e-mail] by 15th October 2020. Please contact Prof. Ting Zhang via [e-mail] if you need further information and enquiries about the conference.

The Economic Modelling invites conference participants to submit their paper for consideration for publication in a regular issue of the journal. The conference organizers, in liaison with the editors of Economic Modelling, will invite the authors of selected high-quality papers that fall within the general remit of the journal, to submit their manuscript to the journal. The editors will ensure that the selected papers undergo the normal reviewing process on a fast-track basis. All papers will be double-blind refereed in the standard way. Authors should submit their work to via the journal’s website: https://www.journals.elsevier.com/economic-modelling

Authors are reminded that submitted papers must comply with the format specified in the notes for authors on the Economic Modelling website. There is a submission fee of US$125.00. Submitted articles should be consistent with the aims and scope of the journal. Acceptance to the conference does not guarantee publication. Invitations for the journal submission are expected to be made by December 2020.
